Just a Theory?

Is a scientific theory just a theory in the layman’s use of the term? No, a scientific theory is not a hunch or even an estimated guess. It is the highest form of knowledge we have. It follows the scientific method of hypothesis, experimentation, observation, and so on that you should know from doing lab reports.

Furthermore, a scientific theory such as the theory of evolution is a fact and a theory. It is a fact that species evolve which is explained by the theory of evolution. A scientific theory must also be falsifiable. And it must survive many attempts to falsify it. If there is even one observation or experiment that falsifies a theory it must be modified or completely thrown out.

As of yet the theory of evolution has not been falsified. There is a varied and immense number of good evidence for it, so there is nothing you creationists can do about it. And please, do not confuse a scientific theory and a scientific law or principle. A theory will not ever be elevated to a law. Scientific laws are named so because they can be expressed in simple mathematical equations like F=ma or Ek=1/2mv². There is no way you could condense a theory into something so simple. Furthermore, if you want to deny the theory of evolution you must also deny the theory of gravity, germ theory, atomic theory etc.

Moreover, those of you who say that “Evolution has never been observed” are very wrong. We have observed many bacteria, viruses and insects evolve. If you think you can falsify any scientific theory be it the theory of evolution or atomic theory or what have you there is a Nobel Prize waiting for you. Until you do this a scientific theory will still stand regardless of who or what you believe in.

God Siblings?

I understand the idea of God parents. They are to take care of you if anything is to happen to your parents. That makes sense. But, the concept of God siblings takes it a little to far. It takes some sects of Christianity closer to their cult origin.

Have you not heard of modern day death cults? Ever heard of Jim Jones and the Peoples Temple, David Koresh and the Branch Davidians, and Charles Manson and Helter Skelter? These cults made their members brothers and sisters with one other. They were all one happy family with a crazy Messianic leader. That is the only thing these Christian sects are missing because Jesus does not exist. He may have once existed, but that was at least 2000 years ago.

I’m not accusing these Christian sects of being suicide cults or really cults at all. I just find it peculiar that they promote the relationship of God brother and God sister considering their close similarity to the relationships these death cults made its members have. Can’t you just have regular friends? Does adding the prefix God- really add anything? Just a thought.

The Ten Commandments and Morality

The ten commandments do not form the basis for morality in the Western world or any other place in the world. Only five out of the ten are actually reasonable. The other five have no sense of morality to them. In fact, the first four just seem to demonstrate how big God’s ego is.

1. Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

This one seems to mean that there are other gods, suggesting a henotheistic view. Otherwise, it should have been written “I am the one true God, all others are phonies” or something to that effect.

Furthermore, the worship of Jesus Christ as God himself seems to violate this commandment. The trinitarian view of the three persons in one godhead is a cop out. There are numerous verses that show how Jesus is only the son of God and not God himself. Anyways, it is ridiculous to be both one’s own father and son.

2. Thou shalt not make for yourself an idol.

I’m quite sure that people understand the difference between a symbol representing God and God itself.

Christians actually don’t follow this commandment very well. There are statues, icons, and other images of Jesus Christ everywhere. Many Christians also wear crosses and crucifixes. And don’t forget the nativity scenes.

3. Thou shalt not take the Lord’s name in vain.

The biggest ego trip of the all. Why should an omnipotent and omniscient God care about what we little creatures say on Earth? He must be a very insecure bully.

4. Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy.

This one makes no sense either and Christians don’t follow it anyways. Plenty of people work on the Sabbath. Working on the Sabbath is also a very necessary thing. If emergency services did not work on the Sabbath just think of how many people would die for no reason.

Now, as I have said only 5-9 are really any good. But, even they have their limitations. For example, you have no obligation to honor your parents if they were abusive, mentally, physically, or sexually. It is reasonable to kill someone who is about to kill another person or persons. It is also reasonable to steal if only to get food to keep you or your family from starving. Lastly, it is permissible to lie if it will prevent a tragedy, for example, when Nazis were knocking door to door and you lied to them about hiding Jews in your attic.

The last one, “Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s wife or anything that belongs to your neighbor” is nothing more than a thought crime. It is a commandment that is impossible to follow. What is the point of making a rule if human nature renders it impossible to follow? Furthermore, coveting is the basis of world economies. If not for coveting you would not have all the beautiful stuff in your house that you enjoy. There would be no competition and no innovation.
